Biography
Prior to working as a solicitor Fiona worked for the Department of Human Services for both Centrelink and Child Support across the Hunter and in Sydney. She uses this knowledge and the skills that she gained to support and guide her clients through the child support appeal process.
Fiona has practiced exclusively as a Family Lawyer both in Sydney and Newcastle. During her time at a boutique firm in Sydney, Fiona dealt with many complex property matters including those with multiple assets and of high value. Fiona has extensive experience in Family Law matters that involve family violence, drugs, and mental health concerns.
Fiona is an Accredited Specialist in Family Law. Fiona is also a Volunteer Student Advisor at the Newcastle University Legal Centre.
Approach
Fiona’s main aim is to find each client the best possible solution for their circumstances, and where possible, keep clients out of Court. This often involves strong negotiation and creative solutions. Fiona is a strong advocate with experience in appearing in the Family Court and Federal Circuit Court in Newcastle, Sydney and other registries.
Clients are often seeing Fiona at a very vulnerable time in their life and an important part of Fiona’s role is to advocate for them and support them during this time.
Fiona believes that providing clients honest and clear advice upfront is important. Fiona provides the necessary guidance and support to her clients to help them build the confidence they need to take the next steps to progress their matter.
Qualifications
Fiona is an Accredited Specialist in Family Law.
Fiona completed a Master of Applied Law (Family Law) through the College of Law after completing her Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice at the Australian National University.
Fiona completed a Bachelor of Arts/Law with Honours at the University of New England.
Fiona is also collaboratively trained.
Achievements
In 2020, Fiona was recognised by the Law Society of New South Wales as being a specialist in Family Law. Specialist Accreditation is earned under the Law Society’s Specialist Accreditation Scheme. It is bestowed upon practicing lawyers after they have passed the Law Society’s assessments with demonstrated expertise in a practice area, for instance, Family Law.
