During your Smart Start Appointment your Specialist Family Lawyer will discuss if you are eligible to access JustFund for your Family Law matter.

Step 2

If our Specialist Family Lawyers think that your case may qualify we will connect you with JustFund so that you can complete the easy application process which takes 5-20minutes. Typically it takes 1 week for your application to be processed. You can also get a head start and complete your application here.

Step 3

If approved our Specialist Family Lawyers get started on your case and JustFund pays your invoices as we issue them.

Step 4

Once your case concludes, repay the family law fees only when it’s all over and only from what you receive from your property settlement.

Assessment Criteria

Clients must meet certain criteria to be able to access a line of credit funding through Justfund.

Your Family Law Solicitor will discuss the below criteria and make the assessment of eligibility in your Smart Start Appointment. You can also take the survey here.

What is your family law matter?

Justfund’s services only cover matters related to property settlements. Unfortunately, Justfund cannot cover cases that only involve parenting arrangements. However, if you are organising parenting and property matters simultaneously, Justfund can assist.

Are there eligible assets?

Justfund can only approve funding for clients with sufficient equity in their asset pool. Justfund can account for the following assets:

  • Real estate,
  • Funds in a solicitor or conveyancer’s trust account pending an agreement,
  • Independently valued businesses.

Who is your solicitor?

Justfund can only work with clients working with Justfund Accredited Family Law Specialists.

How to Minimise Your Legal Fees

This is likely to be the first time you have had to engage a lawyer so it may be difficult to know what you can do to minimise your legal fees. Here are our top tips:

Understand time costing

Lawyers (and any other professionals using time-costing) record the work it takes to do a task on your file in 6-minute units. Generally, a time-costing agreement will provide that if a task takes less than 6 minutes to complete, your Lawyer is still entitled to charge the full 6 minutes.

Avoid contacting your Family Lawyer multiples times per day unless absolutely necessary

Each time your Lawyer receives an email/call from you, they will record the time it takes for them to answer the call or to respond to your email. It is much more time-efficient and therefore cost-effective, if you put all your comments or concerns into one email or book a brief phone appointment, so everything can be dealt with at one time, rather than in lots of little contacts. Your Solicitor has a booking link in their email signature making booking time with them an easy process.
